Latin Legal Terms

Eo nomine

Eo nomine – this Latin term literally means “by that name”. It refers to the name which an individual or entity holds and under which name they are recognizable in the public. For example, in the sphere of Commercial Law, when speaking about a trader we say that they are operating “under that name”; i.e. trading under specific and unique business name, very often registered as a trade name or mark at the local Patent Office.
