Latin Legal Terms

Domus – this legal noun literally means house, home or residence – understood as a structural building where a person resides. In practice, the word participates in the legal maxim “Debet sua cuique domus esse perfugium tutissimum”, which provides the home of a person should be his/her safest refuge place. In other words, this maxim details that the home is secure from unreasonable and non-approved by the court entry and search of premises. A similar phrase is “domus sua cuinque est tutissimum refugium” having the same meaning.
