Latin Legal Terms

Distribuo – this Latin verb literally means to distribute, divide. In the legal practice, it applies in the Probate Law, where refers to the distribution of inheritance pot among the living heirs. This procedure usually may be done voluntary by the inheritors via agreement, or in case of non-agreement, to be done by the Probate court. Synonyms are “diripio” and “distinguo” which share similar meaning.
Nowadays we use the term “distribution”. For example, the Divorce court may perform (usually via consent order) legal distribution of the assets bought during marriage between the two ex spouses.
