Latin Legal Terms


Dispono - this Latin verb literally means to arrange, put in order, administer and draw up. In the practice, the word participates in the legal term “Cijus est dare, ejus est disponere”. It states that the person who donates, is entitled to issue order or a will, where stating namely how their gift to be used by the beneficiaries. This legal rule applied to the activities done by rich people who supported financially the culture and arts in Europe during the historic period of Renaissance. The word relates also to the legal term “jus disponendi”, which refers to the right of alienation – i.e. the right to dispose a thing.
