Defensor – this Latin noun refers to the figure of a defender. Defender is somebody who gives physical or legal support to another person in need. The activities perform by the defender improve the position of the defended person. The origin of this term is the word “defend”, which literally means to defend, to protect.
In practice, the word participates in the legal term “defensor civitatis”, which literally means “a defender of the city”. Usually it refers to the figure of an ombudsman of a city.
The word also relates to the legal term “defensor fidei”, which literally means “a defender of the faith”. It applies in the area of Canon Law, where it details the figure of a person acting as religious supervisor, who decides disputes of the religion, initiated by figures which he supervises.
