Latin Legal Terms

Dedimus potestatem

Dedimus potestatem – this is a legal term literally meaning “I empower to”. In practice it refers to a writ, issued with the role to entitle a person to perform certain legal actions – like hiring a legal representative, or starting execution procedure against the judgment debtor. For example, a power of attorney, given to a lawyer, also empowers him/her to perform legal activities on behalf and for account of the assignor.
