Latin Legal Terms

Occido – this Latin verb means to fall, fall down, (for the sun), to set. In practice, the word participates in the legal maxim “majus est delictum occidere quam alium”, which states that it is a bigger wrongful act to suicide yourself, than to kill another human being. I.e. in simple words – it is punishable to kill another person and the punishment will pass trough the years, compensation will be paid and one day you may be free of jail again, but if you kill yourself, this wrong can not be repaired.
