Lacuna – literally this Latin word means a hole, empty space / pond, pool / deficiency, loss. In practice, the word relates to the legal term “lacunae”, which within the area of International Law details a legal issue that is not governed by any Law; i.e. there is no applicable law to rule the case. Within the area of Litigation Procedures this term describes a concrete situation where there is no applicable law/legislation to rule the particular legal dispute.
