Latin Legal Terms


Audio - it means to hear, hearken, listen to. It relates to the following legal terms and phrases:
“audi alteram partem”, that means “to hear the opposite party”. This is legal expression used in court trials, and relates to the principle of fair trial, where every participating party is granted the right of defense and to be heard. I.e. a person should not be judged before a chance is given to them to be heard and to place their opinion
- auditor - it details the figure of a hearer, listener. For example, auditors are presented in court room on public hearings.
- audi, vide, tace – literally it expresses “hear, see, be silent”. It refers to the capacity of lawyers and their obligation to be confidential in communications with their clients and to value the trust, put in them by clients.
