Latin Legal Terms

Admittere – this term means to “admit” (something). Nowadays it relates to the term “admission”. In some situations a party involved in a lawsuit may confirm the truth of the whole or only part of the other party’s claim at any stage during the pending court proceedings. For example, a defendant may confirm in court that he or she owes some money, but less than the amount claimed by the plaintiff. If the defendant makes an admission, the claimant may apply for judgment on the admission. A similar term is “admitto” that has the same meaning.
