Latin Legal Terms

Diligens

Diligens – this Latin adverb literally means diligent (being the modern term), careful. It origins from the word “diligo”, which means to choose, prize, care. In the practice the word refers to the legal term “diligentia”, which legal definition is diligence, industry, perseverance; persistence. In terms of Law of Contracts, one can be obliged to supervise another person’s asset, where lack of the ordinary diligentia can bring claim for damages. The word relates to the term “dilgenter”, whose legal definition is attentively, earnestly, carefully, diligently. Nowadays we use the legal term “diligence”, applicable in the Litigation Procedures. There it details the procedure of execution for debt.
