Latin Legal Terms

Decimus

Decimus – literally this Latin term means “tenth”. In practice, the word refers to the legal term “decies tantum”, which was a legal rule applicable in ancient Roman Law. It entitled a recovery from a corrupted judge, in ten times the amount of money he has illegally taken under the table. Nowadays we have to admit that if such a rule (related to personal liability of the judge) has been applied in many developing countries, the court system there could work a lot smoothly.
