Latin Legal Terms

Talio, - onis

Talio, - onis – this Latin word means retribution. The word relates to the legal term “lex talionis”, which refers to the legal right of revenge, applicable in ancient times, where a man was entitled alone to give justice for crimes committed to him or his property, without relying on governmental authorities (most even not present back then) like police, prosecution and justice to issue judgment. The punishment should be natural, not financial one – of the same type as the crime was.
