Obsequium

Obsequium it means indulgence, pliancy, submission, indulgence, forbearance, humanity, mercy, gentleness, etc. In practice, usually within the area of Criminal Law, sometimes an Authority like the President has the legal right to give mercy or pardon towards particular sentenced criminal, and to free him/her out of jail. In addition, the Parliament in some legal systems has the legal right to issue pardon for whole type of crimes performed, which pardon affects a huge number of offenders. While the President gives mercy to concrete person only. Synonyms are “clementia” and “venia”, sharing similar meaning.
