Maiestas

Maiestas – this Latin word literally means majesty, dignity, greatness. The word participates in the legal term “crimen maiestatis”, which means “a crime against his/her majesty”. In the area of ancient Criminal Law it detailed a crime against the king or emperor, or against the members of their family.
