Latin Legal Terms

Caste

Caste – this Latin word means purely; chastely. It relates to the legal term “dum casta”, which literally means “as long as she lives chastely”. In ancient times it detailed that the ex-wife will receive financial support as long as she does live chastely and does not start new relationship. In some legal system this rule is applicable today as well. Its role is to provide governmental help to these who have been left alone with the death of their spouse and cannot rely to anybody else.
